Sending much love and appreciation to all!  May 2017 be filled with an abundance of peace and love. I came across the below article from a colleague of mine and thought I would share as it says it all!

Eight Habits that Changed My Life

  1. Show Kindness: Be kind to everyone you come in contact with, from your boss to your barista.  Simply appreciate others for who they are, not what you would like them to be or what they can do for you.  Find surprising ways to bless others with a unexpected tip or word of encouragement.  Put aside your personal agenda and look at interruptions in your day as opportunities to serve others.
  2. First things First: Do your most important tasks first thing in the morning.  Start with an intention and prayer and then move on to the tasks that matter most.  Don’t get caught in the urgent by default like most people do.  Be deliberate instead of just responding to the crises that come your way.
  3. Say No: Stop saying “yes” to every request that comes your way.   Practice saying “let me think about it” before an automatic yes comes from your lips.   Process important decisions for at least twenty-four hours and sleep on it before committing.  Agree to only what is in line with your main mission.  What is your mission?  Define what you enjoy the most and do the best and then stick to it.
  4. Recharge:  Go to bed every night with enough time to get eight hours of sleep and wake up refreshed, preferably early.
  5. Move: Make time for activity every day.   Try something new….free weights in the morning, yoga at lunch or a leisurely stroll in the evening.  Better yet, grab a friend or your spouse and enjoy great company and conversation while you work-out.
  6. Simple Joys:  Find joy in simple things that don’t cost you anything at all… a gorgeous sunrise, the sensation of cool grass on your bare feet, a snowflake on your tongue, playing fetch with your dog,  the gentle touch of a loved one, or the smile of a stranger.  Many of the things that make our life most satisfying are free!
  7. Eliminate! Get rid of what no longer serves you… make a habit of cleaning out closets and other spaces in your home.  Without intervention, junk accumulates and wastes our precious brain power and energy.  Don’t be afraid to give things away, especially things of value.  There is no greater joy than sharing what God has blessed you with.   This practice will ultimately free you from reliance on material things in your life, too.  Need motivation? Check out the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
  8. Practice Gratitude: Perhaps the most powerful habit is gratitude… Be grateful every day and make it a habit, like brushing your teeth.  Before you fall asleep, list at least three things you are grateful for every single day.  Did you know that the two qualities most predictive of life-long happiness are gratitude and life-long learning?

Why Detoxify????

Why Detoxify????

As the New Year begins our routines often fill with the best of intentions. Resolutions are written, diets initiated and exercise programs scheduled. Try finding an available treadmill at the local gym, and you’ll see many like yourself intent on regaining control of their health. And, as the popular colloquialism says: “Its all good!” As a Functional Medicine physician with over 30 years experience in complimentary and holistic approaches to health I have found the most effective and efficient way to begin taking control of one’s health is to DETOXIFY.  I have witnessed “miracles” thousands of times over the course of these years, with patients who had never considered changing their lifestyle much less detoxifying.  So I would like to begin sharing some of the benefits of going through a detoxification program. Before I do, I need to bring us all onto the same page, as not all detoxification programs are the same, or even remotely similar. There are some that use New Age electrical devices and pads, others gut purging formulas, others mono-juice fasting, and others herbal concoctions.

The Detoxification program I have used successfully for over 20 years is the one I have in mind when describing the benefits of such an endeavor, as it is my basis of experience and it is supported by medical science. The “LivClear” Detox program involves the use of a medicinal food powder that is formulated to both support the liver’s role in detoxification and it increases cellular respiration...think energy. In addition to using this medicine, taken as a drinkable shake, an elimination diet is prescribed. The dietary part of the programs eliminates offending foods such as gluten, dairy, soy, corn, coffee, alcohol, sugar, chemicals etc. The programs is designed to take anyone through 28 days of rejuvenation. And believe me, it works, and as mentioned, sometimes even miracles! I will review below the benefits of going through such a worthy life-changing program.

7 BENEFITS OF DETOXIFICATION
Ala Dr. Bump’s LivClear Program

Breaking food addictions and cravings.
During the 28 days program the increased dosing of the LivClear detox formula eliminates addictions by nourishing your cells, all 50 trillion of them, in a way they have never experienced. The formula also works at reducing cravings by keeping blood sugar levels stable.

Improved energy
The LivClear detox formula improves energy several ways. It is specifically formulated to increase how you make energy right down to the cellular level. Because the formula is extremely nutrient dense without extra caloric “baggage” you get more nourishment with less effort. So you don’t have to expend lost of energy digesting and processing your food. Also, as you begin to clear toxins out of your organs, glands, fluids and cells they all begin to work much more efficiently.

Elimination of Toxins
This benefits should actually be number one! The LivClear detox formula supports how your liver is designed to breakdown and eliminate toxins. It is a complicated biochemical process involving the Cytochrome P-450 and conjugation pathways. Sources of toxins are pesticides and herbicides in food, air and water, chemical agents for preserving and coloring in foods and drinks, household and cosmetic products, including paint, carpet and plastic outgassing. Ohh!, did I forget to mention drugs either prescription or OTC.

Weight Loss
Although the 28-day LivClear program is not designed or promoted as a weight loss program 90% of participants loose weight. Those that don’t are typically in severe Insulin Resistance or other potential hormone imbalances, so these are addressed after the detox program. By eliminating offending foods and restricting the amount of carbohydrates, patients also facilitate weight loss.

Hormone Balance
Because hormones are conjugated and deconjugated in the liver, supporting the liver function improves hormone function. Additionally many of the toxins that compete with hormones are eliminated, such as bisphenol-A, which allows the hormone receptors to work efficiently.

Regain health
We know from thousands of medical and scientific studies that what we eat determines our healthy outcome. Our genes are governed by the kinds of food choices we make, so eating a diet that is “gene friendly” can reverse disease conditions and lead to better health.

Establish a Healthy Life Style Foundation
Studies show that we have to repeat a new behavior for 21 days consecutively in order for it to become permanent. The 28-Day LivClear Detox program has been designed with this in mind. As you go through the step by step approach for learning new ways to live and healthy life, you will leave old habits far behind and begin enjoying healthy new behaviors. You will finish the program with a clean canvas and perfect foundation from which you will spring board into better health.

Making Yogurt! Delicious!

From the desk of Dawn:

So I set out on a mission to make yogurt, make it easy, delicious, cost effective and healthy!  Whew!  Found it!
I am sitting here writing this with the most delicious yogurt I have ever tasted!  Let me share the process with you....
It's a little time consuming but very simple.
1.  Pour 2 quarts of organic whole milk into a slow cooker/crock pot.
2.  Cover and cook on low for 2 1/2 hours.
3.  Unplug the slow cooker/crock pot and let stand, covered for three hours.
4.  Pour 2 cups of the milk into a bowl and whisk in a heaping 1/2 cup of an active-culture yogurt; put      mixture back into the slow cooker and stir to combine.
5.  Put the lid back on and wrap the entire slow cooker in a heavy bath towel to insulate.
6.  Let stand for eight hours.

I started this after supper and by bedtime I wrapped the slow cooker and went to bed.  In the morning I had 2 quarts of delicious yogurt!

Homemade yogurt is thinner than store bought because you are not adding any thickeners.  You can strain it through some cheese cloth and make it very thick and rich and save the remaining leftovers for baking, soups, stews, etc.  I didn't find a need for this.

I did puree some fresh strawberries/blueberries and mixed them in....you can be creative!

Now, I typically pay $4.25 for a quart of organic whole milk plain yogurt.  I paid $3.80 for a 1/2 gallon of organic whole milk and ending up with 2 quarts of yogurt!  Whew!  That's a savings!  And I can assure you it tastes better!

Remember to save 1/2 cup of the newly made yogurt for your next batch.  And, PLEASE share your ideas!

Place 2 cups of herb of choice in blender with..
1/2 cup olive oil
2 to 3 cloves garlic
1 cup of water or you can play with lime juice too!

Pour into cupcake tins (1/2 full) and freeze.  After frozen, pop them out and put in labeled freezer bag to be used whenever you need.  Very easy to incorporate into your foods!
